Youth of the Year - Adam Wehner

5/21/2019 |

Congratulations to Adam Wehner —2019  Youth of the Year!

Adam has been connected to the Ludlow Boys & Girls Club for 7 years, primarily through our aquatics program. He joined the Club’s swim team in the 5th grade and developed a passion for swimming. He currently swims for our Sea Lions team, serves as Captain on the high school team, and swims for USA Swimming. He added on the responsibility of working as a lifeguard at the Club last summer. In addition to guarding the pool for our community, Adam shares his passion for the water by teaching swim lessons to preschoolers through teenagers. Outside of swimming, Adam loves music. He gets to refine this passion as a member of the high school chorus. Adam is a bright student who balances these activities with a current course load of 3 AP classes and 2 honors classes. In his limited free time, Adam volunteered this past fall as team manager for the Ludlow High School Cross Country Team. Additionally, through his involvement at the National Catholic Youth Conference, Adam volunteered to make packets of food to send to third world countries. Personally, Adam strives to live a healthy lifestyle with disciplined eating and physical habits. He has not experimented with drugs or alcohol and tries to encourage his friends to make good decisions as well. He believes, “with hard work and a positive attitude, it’s possible to achieve anything. Just keep striving for more.”

In recognition for this outstanding achievement, Adam will be awarded the Jason Thompson Leadership Award, a scholarship established in 2018 by Jason's loving family. The award honors Jason’s lifetime commitment to education, youth, and the greater community by paying it forward, to a student who embodies qualities of leadership, academic success, civic responsibility, and engagement.

Adam, congratulations and thank you for being such a great role model for your peers and our younger Club members!
